Starcraft: Maps released for 2008 Proleague season

The Korean E-Sports Association (KesPa) has just announced the maps for the upcoming 2008 Proleague season.
With the next season of proleague drawing near, the Korean E-Sports Association has announced the one versus one and two versus two maps for the upcoming season. However, this list is not set in stone, so if thorough testing by the professional teams shows a map to be very heavily imbalanced, the map will be replaced.

For the one versus one maps, we will be seeing four brand new maps coming into the pool, and two returning. The new maps are Wuthering Heights, Andromeda, Colloseum, and Othello. The returning maps from last season is Blue Storm, voted map of the year, and Katrina.

For the two versus two maps we will see one new map and an old favorite. The new two versus two map, known as Hannibal will force players be more creative in their strategies then before. The second two versus two map is Hunters, a map that has been around since the games creation along with being one of the most popular maps to date.

1v1
Wuthering Heights
A four player twilight map with the starting positions in each corner. At first glance this map slightly resembles Blue Storm except for having four bases instead of two. The choke at the natural should be fairly easy to defend for all races, but the tricky part will be deciding to either take the mineral only near your natural or secure the base with two gases near the center. As a terran player you should not have much problem defending your bases or cliffing your opponents expansions in the center.

1v1
Andromeda
A four player space map with starting locations on each of the four corners. The main is elevated with a mineral only expansion near the ramp, and the natural located just below the ramp. Neutral buildings are located on the other side of the elevated platform blocking extra space that can be used for either extra building space or an area for units like siege tanks being used to defend the natural.

The middle of the map is rather open with two gases in the middle, two islands at twelve and six o clock, and two more bases at three and nine o clock. Out of all of the one versus one maps, this looks to possibly be the most balanced.

1v1
Colloseum
A four player desert map with the mains at all four corners. An interesting factor about this map is the ability to secure two gases near your base. However, defending both of these bases will not be an easy task due to the potential of being attacked from two different places.

With the exception of the main bases and mineral only expansions around the map, all of the expansions are sitting on elevated terrain. Being able to hold these bases should favor the terran, but we will have to see what the testing results show before we can safely say this map benefits one race more than the others.

1v1
Othello
A four player twilight map organized so that it will be very difficult to defend your expansions outside of your natural. With two ways for your opponent to attack, this will give defensive players some problems. Elevated terrain behind the natural expansions will make early drops on the natural cliff a common occurrence. The relatively small chokes will also make it difficult for a player to mount a large force and attack from one side.

2v2
Hannibal
One of the mosts interesting maps in the pool. This map was designed for two versus two, there is no doubt about that. However, players are going to have to be much more creative in their strategies then ever before.

The naturals are placed behind the ramps which will make it very difficult to defend your ramp while also defending your natural. After closer examination, this map appears not to favor zerg as much as protoss or terran. The second naturals are a good distance away from your base which will make them much harder to defend. Although, most two versus two matches will generally not last long enough for a player to take a second expansion.

2v2
Hunters
One of the original maps since the games conception is surprisngly making its debut in the proleagues. Having an eight player map being one of the two versus two maps will make early scouting of your opponents very important. Spawning in a poor posiition or far away from your partner may result in a quick demise.
