Quake: WSVG Dallas Quake 4 Melee

By: Joe Szymkowicz - Published July 02, 2007 at 11:19 PM EDT - Writer Archive
The WSVG continues in Dallas this week for the second event of the series. Though this tournament will feature less players than last week, the level of skill is fairly even and should equate to an exciting event.
It's been a little more than a week since WSVG Louisville, and now we're already getting set for the second Quake event of the WSVG series. It's Dallas' turn to play host to the massive event. This time, the field is expected to be a bit weaker compared to the star-studded list that we saw in Louisville. Heavy hitters such as Maciej "av3k" Krzykowski, Anton "Cooller" Singov and Ivo “forever” Lindhout are opting out of WSVG to participate in the ESWC Finals in France. Though some question the move, saying ESWC is losing its edge, it removes three of Louisville’s top eight finishers that would’ve otherwise participated in this tournament.

That said, it leaves this week’s competition virtually open to the majority of the top players. This, in turn, should make a lot of the matches a bit closer and maybe even produce some possible upsets among the matches.

Now almost two weeks after the release of the Quake 4 1.4.2 patch, competitors have had plenty of time to learn the new features and tweaks of the update such as the major speed increase, which made many players evaluate the way they played going into last week’s tournament. That aside, hopefully this tournament runs a bit smoother than the last, which was plagued with network issues and server problems.

Last minute changes were also made to the brackets yesterday due to the uncertainty as to whether Zhibo "Jibo" Fan would be playing in the event this weekend. To make it fair to all parties involved, he was given a 30th seed and was inserted into the brackets. He will play against Chance "chance" Lacina first round.

The event will be streaming over the WSVG website, which can be found at TheWSVG.com. Commentators for Quake 4 will be quadV's Joe Miller with another guest appearance from fnatic's Jay "2GD" Harding.

Be sure to stay locked to GotFrag for up to the minute scores and information to come from the WSVG Dallas event. Also, be sure to set your Personal Timezone so that you can be informed what time matches will kick off in your area!
