Halo 3: Feature Match Interview: [cG]QTIP

Joe's interview with Paule "QTIP" Cortez of cooked Gamers about their upcoming match this week with [xeno].

Paule 'QTIP' CortezGive me a little background about your team and how it has been doing recently.

[cG]QTIP: Recently we've been rather busy with other things. Some of our members haven't been able to scrim much, along with one being out of town. Although I think we will be where we need to be come CPL.

After a dissapointing playoff loss last season, [cG] returned with a new roster for this season, but are on the verge of not making the playoffs. Do you consider this season a success?

[cG]QTIP: I would consider this season a success. The changes to the roster will be fully realized come the CPL, although we'd like to make the playoffs, it is not the end all.

Zyos was a member of the xeno CAL Championship last season. Has his insight into the workings of xeno helped you prepare for this matchup, and what is his attitude like facing his former team? Please state your starting 5 for this match and how each player will play an important role to your success this week.

[cG]QTIP: Zyos is currently out of town preparing for a MLG xbox tournament that is coming up in the near future. While we haven't prepared with him specifically for xeno, I think our past scrimming with him on Sidewinder, both against xeno and not, has helped us to be better prepared for this match-up. Butler/Rapture will be the main flag bearers for the match, I will be focusing on ports, Diesel emphasizing on sniper control, and our 5th synide filling in somewhere inbetween. With that being said, any of us may be at any spot at any given moment.

If you could pick one player on your team to have a big performance this week, who would it be and why?

[cG]QTIP: I would have to pick Diesel. With some key sniping from him, it will open up some doors for us regarding map control.

What do you think of xeno as a team? What do you believe are their strengths and weaknesses and how will you prepare for them this week?

[cG]QTIP: I believe xeno is a strong team that could win vs any team if they are on their game. They have a strong sniper and good flag running capabilities. We really haven't prepared for xeno at all with our busy schedules, hopefully we'll get in some scrims before the match.

If you could pick one player on xeno to have a poor performance this week, who would it be and why?

[cG]QTIP: I would like for their flag runner to have a bad game more than anyone else. The odds of us killing the flag runner dramatically increase the longer he gets stuck on the doors coming in on sidewinder ;).

What plans does [cG] have to prepare for CPL? How will tournaments like Halo50k affect your practice schedule with top XBox players such as Zyos and DIESEL on your team?

[cG]QTIP: We are currently feeling the effects of this, we haven't been able to scrim with Zyos for over two weeks. We also wont be able to bootcamp before the CPL, hopefully this wont greatly affect our performance when it matters. Hopefully we can counterbalance this with a good amount of scrims in July.

Demise, the 2nd placing CPL finisher last Winter, has recently returned to Halo after a long hiatus playing UT2k4. Do you think they have the time and ability to once again be a top performer?

[cG]QTIP: Demise is a team that takes gaming very seriously. As long as they take the time to scrim and get their halo teamwork down, I believe they can be a top team at the CPL.

Who do you think will be your biggest challenges at Summer CPL 2004 and who do you hope to face?

[cG]QTIP: Any of the teams currently considered top 10 will be a challenge at the cpl, especially with the big variances from map to map. I would really like to face NoX at the CPL. Butler and I had a chance to lose to them at a 2v2, and we dont plan to do it again.
