Day Of Defeat: CAL-M Finals Preview

By: Brendan O'Conor - Published February 23, 2006 at 6:15 PM EST - Writer Archive
Careface and GIMP face off tonight to decide who the deserving CAL-Main champion of the season should be. These two teams have not played each other yet and both are, in theory, undefeated. With the death of Careface, only GIMP will advance to CAL-I next season, regardless of the result.

Overview

Tonight’s finals match pits two dominating teams, Careface and GIMP, against each other. Excluding GIMP’s forfeit of their win against pV earlier this season due to revolt being an idiot, neither team has lost a match thus far and both seem to have dominated the competition without much trouble. The fact that these teams have somehow avoided each other’s path thus far this season makes the match that much more troubling to predict, as both teams feature seemingly unbeatable weapons. Thus far in the playoffs, GIMP has experienced a bit of a smoother ride in getting to the finals, taking out ITF, Quick Strafe and most recently Rise Above by considerable margins. Careface, on the other hand, has had two of its closest matches of the season, emerging with a 19-point win over Demolition and a somewhat close win over pV on Harrington. With Careface dying after the season, the win will be somewhat insignificant as GIMP will advance to CAL-I whether they win or lose and Careface will split up and go its own separate ways. Interviews were conducted with both teams, with SpecOps answering for Careface and Heineken answering for GIMP.
