Counter-Strike: Five with icy

GotFrag sits down with Iniquity's Andy "icy" Keefe and discusses some hot topics including his teams performance in CEVO Professional.

After two seasons of CEVO Main, your team finally made it to CEVO Professional. What do you feel it took for your team to get there that you couldn't achieve in previous seasons?

The previous two seasons, we had some inactivity issues. The first season, we had to play 3v5 in playoffs and last season, we ended up forfeiting. We finally got a stable roster and everyone was dedicated and really wanted to win CEVO Main. We managed to stick it out and even though we weren't happy with 3rd place, we managed to keep playing and will hopefully be successful in CEVO Professional.

Due to the Counter-Strike 1.6 scene taking its 180 degree turn on the community with top teams switching over to CS:Source and beginning a new career, how do you feel about lower tier teams moving up the ranks in the place of those past teams?

I think it gives teams a great opportunity to make a name for themselves. While I wish all of the top teams would have stayed and played 1.6, most of the lower tier teams would have stayed in the lower ranks and we wouldn't really get a chance to see what they're capable of.

Most the of top tier teams are not in CEVO with the numbers they use to have. How do you feel about the way it has transitioned? Do you believe there could be a relation between that transition, and the fact that iniquity is in CEVO Pro?

Yes and no. I believe we would still have been able to make it into CEVO Professional, but it would have been a much harder task to accomplish.

There has been some rumors of your team being "online" so to speak and that maybe your team can't hang when it comes to major LAN events. How do you respond to those who think you don't belong in CEVO Pro or believe you could not manage performing to the best of your ability on LAN?

I think it's really unfair to be labeled that way, but since we haven't attended a LAN together as a team, there is not much that we can do about it. I just find it annoying that all of the top players were labeled "online" at some point before they attended their first LAN, and thats exactly whats happening to us.

Since I know that none of my teammates cheat or myself, we just take it as a compliment and it boosts our game even more. If our opponents come into the game thinking that we cheat, it throws them off their game and gives us a mental advantage.

Recently you pulled off two big wins. The first over Frag Dominant and just last night, taking out Cyberglobe. What does this tell you about your team and how the rest of the season will pan out. Do you feel you have what it takes to beat some of the top teams after these close matches?

I'm always happy with a win, but we have a lot of room for improvement. With the recent addition of broodex, our chemistry and teamwork has been thrown off a little. We're working on adapting and mending Jon's playstyle with ours, and hopefully we can become one of the top teams in the US.

Bonus Question: Now the question on everybody's mind. With breakfast being the most important meal of the day, just what is your favorite breakfast cereal? How does someone start their day the icy way?

Cinnamon Toast Crunch is the best cereal ever made. If i don't have any cereal, Apple Toaster Strudels.
