Counter-Strike: Fnatic vs. Complexity: Consolation Finals Preview

By: Brian Johnson - Published July 08, 2006 at 5:16 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Momentarily Fnatic will be taking on Complexity in WSVG's ISC consolation finals. The two teams are looking to advance to day 4, and have a shot of redemption against Alternate Attax.
At the end of the day there will only be two team’s remaining in the WSVG Intel Summer Championship Counter-Strike tournament. After winning the upper bracket finals, Alternate Attax has solidified their spot as one of the two teams. This afternoon’s consolation finals match up between the Swedes of Fnatic, and the Americans in Complexity, will determine the other team. With potentially a $20,000 prize money gap at stake, this match has more on the line than pride.

Fnatic’s Roster:

Sweden Harley ”dsn” Örwall
Sweden Patrik “cArn” Sättermon
Sweden Kristoffer “Tentpole” Nordlund
Sweden Patrik “f0rest” Lindberg
Sweden Oscar “Archi” Torgersen

Complexity’s Roster:

United States Corey “tr1p” Dodd
United States Matt “Warden” Dickens
United States Danny “fRoD” Montaner
United States Justin “sunman” Summy
United States Tyler “Storm” Wood

Prior to the match I had asked Complexity’s owner Jason Lake to give me 5 keys for his team to win the match. He stated the following:

1) Playing defense first
2) Frod out AWping dsn
3) Preventing Fnatic from pushing inner halls
4) Storm holding ivy
5) Hitting our shots

Despite both teams ability to consistently frag on offense during the tournament, I believe the winner of this match will be which ever team wins the coin toss, subsequently acquiring the defensive side first, as both Fnatic and Complexity have had stellar results on the defensive side of Train.

To top it off, Fnatic is fresh off of two successful matches winning 16-10 against g3x on Train and beating 4Kings 16-2 on nuke. Needless to say the Swedes heads will be in the game. What’s in question is Fnatic’s mental endurance. Fnatic has been inside the tournament area the entire day and is likely to start tiring soon. Even though Complexity is likely to still be recovering from their 2-16 loss against Attax in the upper bracket finals; I believe the break the Americans received between matches gave them enough time to gain a slight mental edge over Fnatic.

With up to $20,000 resting on the line of a single quarter, Complexity has employed a new strategy: send Sunman and his bear to make the call. Mr. Lake informed me that the team had yet to win a coin flip today, and needed to mix things up. When asked about who would call the coin toss for Fnatic, dsn casually pointed to himself and told me that he had experienced a 60 – 40 win loss ratio throughout the tournament and would come through this time.
