Following Fnatic's first round sweep over TNT, Karpov had a chance to sit down and interview Fnatic's team captain Harley "dsn" Örwall. The interview covers topics ranging from Mibr cogu's AWP to cowboy hats. ![]() Download the audio file here. Thank you How satisfied with your team’s performance [at ESWC] are you? I think we played really good I mean there were some matches where we didn’t perform as well as we could – like in the match vs. SoA and obviously in the finals it was a big disappointment for us, coming so far and beating so many top teams, then losing big to Mibr. But overall I’m really satisfied by ending up second; we lost to a good clan. Were you surprised to face Mibr in the finals? Did you think they would get that far? No, anything can happen in Counter-Strike, but Mibr was quite a surprise. We played them and I didn’t really think they looked that strong, but they obviously played great throughout the tournament and they deserved to win. Which one of your teammates impressed you the most during the event? I think Tentpole played really good, so I have to go with him because he won so many clutch rounds like the last round vs. 3D, it was really important. Was that the 1v2? Yea the 1v2. At times during the finals against Mibr on inferno you guys looked a little confused on some of your strategies and setups. Did you have some problems with inferno coming into the event or is that one of your weaker maps? No I just think we respected Mibr too much. For the game we didn’t play our tactics, we just made some pretty bad anti-strats and I think we were too afraid of cogu’s AWP. If we would have played our normal game we would have probably got some more rounds, and I think we made some stupid mistakes. I called some bad strats as CT and they played good. So at this tournament you’re not going to focus on the anti’s as much? Well we’re going to look for demos of course but we’re not going to be as afraid to play our game. What are you’re expectations for Fnatic at WSVG; is it safe to say 1st place? No its never safe to say first place in Counter-Strike because there’s so many good teams here -- not as many as ESWC but there’s still a lot of good teams here. I would be satisfied with top3 although I want to win because we haven’t won so much even though we’ve placed good. How much did top two payout for ESWC $40,000 or $50,000? $36,000 That’s not a bad payout. Yea that’s good You answered my next question; how strong do you feel the field is at WSVG? You said that you felt the field at ESWC is stronger then the field here. Yea, there are a lot of teams missing here like Nip, some Swedish teams, and the Asian teams. There are a lot of good teams here like the American teams and Attax; I’m a bit afraid of Attax because they have been looking strong lately. It’s a bit sad Mibr isn’t here because I want revenge. Some redemption? Yea. Which team here are you most looking forward to playing? I’m looking forward to playing 3D again to prove to them it wasn’t a 1 time thing. Did you see the first round match where they were almost upset? No but I heard about it, I heard it was close. It was very close. Which team are you least looking forward to facing? I don’t know we don’t have any enemies; we’re not afraid of anybody Except cogu’s AWP right? Yea except cogu’s AWP; I think we can beat any team here on any given day; but there are some teams here that can beat us as well such as Attax, 3D, and Col on some maps. How does WSVG’s atmosphere and side events compare to some of the other LAN events you’ve attended? Well I think it’s really nice here but a bit loud when you play because they’re running competitions and shootouts in the same area. The computers are really awesome, but the admins seem to be confused about the rules. I noticed they have 1 admin spectating both sides of the match instead of 1 admin for each team. At WSVG Sweden the admins were really confused because they told Nip and us different things about warnings and talking when you’re dead, and it doesn’t really seem better here because we had to ask a lot of admins questions about rules. They don’t really seem to know the rules. So they need better admins? Yea they probably need better admins. What has been your biggest complaint about the tournament thus far? Would you say that’s it? Yea probably the admins because when you ask admin they have to ask admin and they have to ask their chiefs and its just a big chain of questions. So it’s not the weather outside? Most people complain about the weather; it’s hot. I don’t know the weather had a fast tornado warning yesterday and I was inside. Oh, I didn’t think about that I was saying its 105 outside. Give me a guarantee; something you’re team is going to do at this event. It could be I’m going to eat dinner at a nice restaurant or something like that. I think we’re going to shopping. You see you can’t think you have to give me a guarantee; you have to say I guarantee we’re going shopping. I guarantee we’re going shopping. Where at? I don’t know somewhere central in Dallas. Are you going to get cowboy hats like SK did? We talked about it, but I can’t guarantee that. Well it’s been a pleasure thanks a lot, if you have someone you’d like to thank go ahead. I’d want to thank Intel, Nvidia, Everglide and Razer for supporting us and thank you GotFrag for being a good site even though you posted a playbook on us for this event. Hey if you want to be a top team you have to mix up your strats. Yea I don’t really mind. Thanks a lot. |
