I'm sorry for my bad english... Ok, so CS was once the largest game arround, with a hell lot more people playing it then other games of any kind. I'm not sure if this is true anymore. (someone correct me if I'm wrong) Those Warcraft guys are really pushing it and there are some other games now too.
Our community is now mainly splitted into 1.6 / CZ / Source. And there is CSP too.
I have seen this before. I used to play Quake. Q1 / Quake World was the first one and people loved it. Q2 has come, and Q3 and Q4 now, and still, a hell lot of people, in Europe mainly, won't move on from Q1.
Funny thing, it is happening the same with CS. Source is out, and a lot of people, mainly in Europe, won't move on. But for what reason? They blame the new game, and how bad it is, just like those Quake guys. Q1 guys hated the new Quake series.
But is it true? Is Q3 / Q4 worst then Q1? Or is Source worst then 1.6?
The answer is no. And it is easy to see it. If Source was the fisrt CS ever released, and then some how 1.6 appears, a lot of people would hate 1.6, just like what is happening today with Source.
CSP just shows that point. Do you guys really think that there will be a CS release, as close to 1.6, as CSP is? I doubt. If CS2 or any other kind of CS will come out, it will be different.
And if 1.6 guys are already talking trash about CSP, it is hard to believe that CS2 or any other CS evolution will be good enough for those guys.
You know what happened to Quake 1? Q1 is from 1994, and lasted a looooong time (more then 1.6 so far), but it is death today. There were though, some guys that won the evolution of that game. Fatal1ty been one. Cooller another one.
When you move on to another game, you need to learn it all over again. Doesn't matter if you are moving from 1.6 to source or Q1 to Q2. Something is different. A lot of people won't move on just because of the hard time to learn it again. Some people played 1.6 for 2 or 3 years before learning something about it and they don't want to do that again with another game.
Those guys, like coL and many others, that are / were great in 1.6 and Source, have already won some kind of evolution of that game. And when something like CS2 or other game comes arround I can bet the learning curve of those guys, that already made one transition, will be better.
Future of e-sport is @ tv, like other sports and in my opinion, it will have to walk side by side with the new games releases, because that is what puts more money into the developers bank acc. If they release a new game, they want it to sell, and they will force the great leagues to use it.
I won't even comment, the pressure hardware guys like Nvidia puts on the leagues to use new games releases, because they will require new and expensive hardware.
That is why, you don't see any Q1 great cups, only Q3 and Q4. That hasn't happened to 1.6 yet, but you can see, it could.
Only time will tell, what will the future be, but today, I would say Source is growing more then 1.6. 1.6 is larger, no doubt, but in terms of growing, it think source is ahead now.
And if CS2 or other game will come, I would bet a lot of 1.6 guys still won't move on, and will blame again, the new game and how bad it is.
Let's wait and see.
